Laudetur Iesu Christus! This week are the Rogation Days, a three day period of prayer (and formerly penance) that precedes the feast of the Ascension. It concluded with a special blessing over the fields. Latin Mass & 40 Hours devotion – this week there will be 2 opportunities (back to back) to attend a Solemn High Mass, and to participate in the 40 Hours devotion:
Ascension Thursday May 30: 7pm, Annual Solemn High Orchestral Mass at St. Ann with the Carolina Catholic Chorale and orchestra. Along with the chants, sacred music will be the beautiful MASS in G of Franz Schubert. Immediately after Mass, St. Ann will begin its annual 40 Hours devotion of Eucharistic Adoration ending 3pm Saturday June 1. The signup sheet is in the narthex.
Friday May 31 – Feast of the Queenship of Mary: 7pm Solemn High Mass, Cathedral of St. Patrick. For the music settings, it will be Mass for Four Voices by 16th century composer Michelangelo Grancini; motets by Palestrina and Anerio as well as the usual proper chants.
The Cathedral is also organizing a special 40 Hours devotion surrounding this Mass (1pm May 30 – ends 8am June 1), to pray to prevent the opening of the new Planned Parenthood abortion facility nearby. Sign up: https://stpatricks.org/forty-hours
