RIP Tom Savoy

Laudetur Iesus Christus!

Dear Friends of the Charlotte Latin Mass Community,

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing this morning of our dear friend Thomas F. (Tom) Savoy.  We beg you in charity to pray for the happy repose of his soul.

Tom was an outstanding Church musician. He had been the Director of Sacred Music at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Charlotte, NC, and was responsible in particular for promoting traditional Catholic music at the parish. He was recently appointed Director of Music (Magister Capellae) of St. Joseph Minor Seminary in Mount Holly, NC.

The news of Tom’s passing immediately brought to mind this line from the Epistle from yesterday’s Mass,  (Eph 5: 19-20)“… be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.”

Please also pray for consolation for his wife, Deborah, and their family and friends.

Post Script: Tom also founded the Carolina Catholic Chorale which provided sacred music at many Traditional Latin Masses in the area.
