11th Sunday after Pentecost

Laudetur Iesus Christus and Blessed feast of Our Lady’s Assumption.  While tomorrow is the 11th Sunday after Pentecost, it also (when on a Sunday) is another Marian related day – the feast of Our Lady’s Father, St. Joachim. Both he and St. Ann have separate feast days in the Extraordinary Form calendar.

To learn more about the traditions of St. Joachim we link to Dom Prosper Gueranger’s entry for tomorrow: https://sensusfidelium.us/the-liturgical-year-dom-prosper-gueranger/august/august-16-st-joachim-confessor-father-of-the-blessed-virgin-mary/

As custom, for Sunday’s collect, we also provide a reflection by Dr. Mike Foley: http://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2020/08/god-has-piety-collect-for-eleventh.html#.XziT-357nwc

Respect Life Latin Mass –  Saturday August 22, 8:00am

St. Ann will offer its monthly 4th Saturday Respect Life Mass, this coming Saturday August 22nd at 8:00am. Afterwards Father will lead the group to pray at Planned Parenthood (or you can stay with Deacon in the church who will lead a Holy Hour of Reparation). It is also the feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – a day that we can pray that the triumph of the Immaculate Heart will happen soon – once the Holy Father consecrates Russia to the Immaculate Heart.

Douay Rheims bible tabs fundraising campaign:

As many Latin Mass attendees know, the Douay Rheims Catholic bible is the most accurate English bible translation that safely translates from Latin to English. For centuries, the Douay Rheims was the English translation of the scripture readings at Mass in Roman Missal (which sadly was replaced in the 1950s). For newcomers the Douay Rheims bible can be a little challenging because of the ancient naming of many its books differs from modern bibles. To make it easier to read, CLMC member & St. Ann parishioner Mary Richardson is organizing a campaign to raise the necessary funds to help manufacture high quality Douay Rheims bible tabs (Old & New Testaments). A donation of $15 will get you one set ($30 two). To learn more visit this website here: https://wonderwe.com/drbibletabs

Latin Mass & Traditional News

Holy Belt of the Virgin Mary: Since today is the feast of the Assumption we share an article on one of the few known relics of the Blessed Mother – her holy belt: http://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2020/08/the-holy-belt-of-virgin-mary-relic-of.html#.XziT5n57nwc

Review of Foundations Restored DVD series on Creation: Last November you may recall that the CLMC co-sponsored the Evolution & Culture of Death conference with the local pro-life group C-PLAN and the Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation. Among the many things we learned was that the errors of Darwinism have infected society and the Church. Much of the problems of today lie actually at the feet of this error – which has no basis in theology or natural science. Thankfully, the Kolbe Center has put out a ground breaking DVD series (17 parts!) called Foundations Restored exposing the myth and presenting the traditional teaching of special creation (note: if you are questioning certain “narratives” in our news today – you will find this series very beneficial).

To give you an understanding of the impact of Foundations Restored, Rorate Caeli has a review of the DVD series which we encourage you to read: https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2020/08/foundations-restored-dvd-series-from.html

Why the Gospel faces liturgical north at the Latin Mass: If you’ve ever wondered why the altar servers move the Missal to the left side of the altar (liturgical north) during Latin Mass, this article will be helpful. In short it’s to symbolize the preaching of the pagan gentiles of the north (Europe). Archbishop Vigano’s Response to Fr. Thomas Weinandy, O.F.M. on the fruits of Vatican II: Next Saturday (August 22nd) is the 2 year anniversary of Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano’s breaking silence on the corruption in the Church. Lately, he’s been examining the documents of Vatican II, along with the problems that followed the Council and offering some critical analysis. This week he debates noted conservative theologian Fr. Thomas Weinandy on the matter:
