Feast of St. Gregory the Great

Laudetur Iesus Christus! Today Thursday March 12, is the feast day of St. Gregory the Great, the patron saint for the Charlotte Latin Mass Community. To learn more about this great saint (whose name bears the Gregorian Chant he codified) please read Dom Prosper Gueranger’s write up on St. Gregory the Great:

On a topic closer to our concerns, as we posted a few weeks ago, St. Gregory also led a procession to combat a deadly plague which affected much of the ancient world in the 6th century:

He also started a tradition in offering 30 Days of consecutive Masses for a deceased, and tradition holds that this soul will be released from purgatory after the set of Gregorian Masses is complete.

St. Gregory the Great, pray for us!
